Bokwa Fitness

What is Bokwa®? Bokwa® is a new and completely different approach to group exercise that is rapidly spreading across the globe. Bokwa® participants draw letters and numbers with their feet while performing an energizing and addictive cardio workout routine. Moving together to today’s most popular music, participants off all ages draw the Bokwa® L, C, J, B, and dozens of other steps.

This fitness program was developed by international fitness personality Paul Mavi, Bokwa® comes from Paul’s native South African roots as a dancer and musician. As a leading Los Angeles based Group Fitness Instructor, Paul developed Bokwa® for his own classes for over an 8 year period.

Compared to other dance fitness programs; here you do not need to count steps. Bokwa® steps are structured and based on the forms of letters and numbers, doing Bokwa® does not require you to count, like a traditional 8 count followed by most dance fitness programs. Simply feel the music and freely move with the beat. And the dozens of other class participants that are sharing the energy and excitement with you.

Once you know the step, you own it and can do it without following an instructor’s personal choreography. Because the steps follow the same structure, whether you are doing it in Taiwan, Australia, England or the US, Bokwa® is truly universal. I can really say that this is one of my favorite parts about this program. I love watching the participants give it their own flavor and style, without having to change the step at all. We can do Bokwa® to popular music that appeals to a global audience. The music is energizing and it is likely the same awesome songs you listen to in your car. No need to be restricted to certain music; there are endless possibilities.

This program is for everyone to enjoy because the steps are structured as letters and numbers everyone can do Bokwa®. From 4-year-old kids to 75 year old men and women, people with two left feet who cannot dance, and even world champion Latin and ballroom dancers. All having a terrific experience in the same class!

It does not feel like you are working out or in an intense cardio class because of the refreshing music, the fun and predictable steps, and the great motivation coming from people moving together to music, participants become addicted to Bokwa®. You would not even realize you were burning up to 1,200 calories in one workout. This program has many formats that it offers to all participants. Certified instructors can have several certifications like, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, Punch and Strike, Tone and Core, and Step and Up. Aside from the levels, instructors learn Remix Steps that are incorporated in each class to further enhance the experience and fun.

Bokwa® has been able to develop a loyal following across the globe with certified instructors and participants in dozens of countries, by offering certifications to Independent Group Fitness Instructors who then teach Bokwa® classes in some of the largest health club chains, independent studios, schools and community centers.

On the weekend of the 26-28 of June, Orlando Fl was able to experience for the first time a Bokwa® BEAT. A BEAT is an event that the creator of Bokwa has created to allow not only instructors but everyone to come and experience the program if they haven’t already. If you have already then it is a weekend you will truly enjoy. You will see a little of all of the newest formats offered and you will be able to meet people from all around your area and the nation. The Orlando BEAT had people from Texas, Michigan, and even California who came to learn and have a great time. The BEAT also gives you the opportunity to get certified on a specific level. Check online at bokwafitness.com for a BEAT near you and for an instructor or classes in your area.

Special thanks to Wyndham Lakes Estates Clubhouse and Management for allowing us to use their facilities in this community event, the residents, and to my lovely staff. Also, to Paul Mavi and his crew from around the nation for making everything possible. Last but not least, to Juan Arturo Morales and Wilfredo

Montalvo for the photographs and opportunity.
